Printing Invitations At Home

Whether you’re inviting people to a wedding or a party, current printing technology and graphic design software allows you to design and print invitations at home. You’ll save money, but also come up with a completely unique design which will reflect the themes and colors of your party.

Invitations can be designed in numerous programs. Most word processors have features which can be used to create an invitation. Some will automatically align the invitations so you can print more than one per page. Specialized graphic design and layout programs can also be used. These often have advanced alignment and layout features, as well as complex blend effects which can create a very professional looking invitation.

Make sure any images you use support the overall look of the invitation. A tasteful graphic, rather than a photograph, is often the way to go. A photograph can be overpowering and too complex for a small invitation, whereas a small graphic can break up the text and provide a sleek, classic look.

Printing the invitations can be done on a home printer, although you may want to consider using a professional one. You want a crisp edge to any areas of color and smooth blends, without the striping effect some printers will create.

You also want to make sure your design has enough space around the edge for the printer to hold the paper. All but the highest quality printers need some space around the image so they can print it and low end printers may need quite a lot. Make sure you leave enough space for the printer not to cut off the sites.

The paper you print on is an important, and often overlooked, part of a professional looking invitation. You can buy quality card stock from a local art supply store. When selecting the card make sure it will fit in the printer and make sure it’s large enough for your invitation design.
